What is the Good News?
We're all about telling people the Good News, or Gospel, of Jesus. Before we can tell the Good News, we have to tell the bad news. Good news isn't good unless there's something bad first.
First, the bad news...
In the beginning, God created the world. He desired to be in a loving relationship with all humans; however, every single human has chosen to disobey God (Romans 3:23). Since God is always just and fair, He has to punish our wrongdoing. This punishment is spiritual death and eternal separation from Him (Romans 6:23).
Now, the good news...
God loved each and every human so much that He decided to make a way for us to be brought back into a right relationship with Him (John 3:16). Jesus did this by living a perfect, sinless life and going to the cross and dying in our place. Even though He was guilty of no crime, Jesus died to take the punishment that we deserved (2nd Corinthians 5:21).
Now what?
By dying for our sins, Jesus made it possible for us to be brought back into a right relationship with God (John 14:6). But, there is something you must do in order to receive the free gift that Jesus offers: you must admit that you can't do anything! You must have faith that Jesus has taken the punishment for your sins and you must not trust in your own goodness or works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Placing our faith and trust in Jesus for salvation is the only way to heaven (Romans 10:9-10). The most important choice you will ever make is either to accept or reject Jesus's free gift of salvation. Turning from sin and trusting in Jesus is God's plan for salvation (Mark 1:15).
